Information regarding the Saturday Night Meeting

Because of the large number of people attending the Saturday night meeting, the Fire Marshall requires that we observe the seating capacity limits for each venue. In cooperation, tickets are issued on a first come, first served basis identifying your assigned venue. This is for the Saturday night meeting only. Tickets are not required to attend any other meeting.

We know that everyone would like to be in the JAR arena, but the JAR only seats 5,400 people. Since approximately 14,000 people attend each year, it is not possible to put everyone in the JAR. The first 5,400 people that register, and do not request another venue will be assigned the JAR arena.

The committee spends many hours working with the University staff to try to make Founders' Day one of the best Conferences in A.A., but we need the cooperation of the fellowship to do so. Remember to register early.

A.A. Conventions: Why do I have to Pay?

While there are no dues or fees for membership in A.A., there are many conferences around the world and the most common misconception of these gatherings are that they are AA meetings, and "there are no dues and fees for AA membership."  However, Founders' Day and Conferences are special events, not regular A.A. meetings.

This conference requires months of planning, preparation and money to present.  Since all of the events are held on the Akron University Campus, there is a charge to the Committee for the use of these facilities.  In addition, the University of Akron requires that we purchase all coffee from them.  Other expenses include travel and lodging for speakers, printing cost, postage and supplies.  The event is paid for through the cost of the registration.  No baskets are passed. As responsible A.A. members "WE PAY OUR OWN WAY."
